Dallin was having one of those Saturdays.
He felt restless and unproductive.
That can be an extra hard feeling to handle with 6 kids who each want your attention.
He and a couple of the kids went outside and kindly left me to my project.
This is how it looked outside on Saturday, exactly one week before the first day of spring:

Awhile later, an excited voice calls, "Mom! Come on! Dad wants everyone to come out to the garage!
I admit I was a little hesitant to leave the project that I was finally making some progress on.
I didn't regret leaving, though.
When I got out to the garage, the air was filled with warmth and excitement. Dallin and the kids had swept and cleaned and set up some chairs and even put some carpet remnants down.
And they had built a fire in the little wood-burning stove.
The kids weren't the only ones caught up in the excitement of it. It was a Laura Ingalls moment for sure! I was half tempted to set out sleeping bags and stay the night. The kids would sleep in the loft (a la Little House on the Prairie), of course! I think I would have done it if the reality of a 2 year old and 8 month old wouldn't have completely diminished the romance of it all.
We did this instead:

And Saturday became a holiday.
